Although this is fairly old news now – I believe it was announced sometime in the Spring of this year (2024) – if you haven’t heard yet you can get the desktop app for ChatGPT 4 from the Apple Store for free. This was a subscription proposition before the announcement, so how cool!

For me, ChatGPT 4 is so much better than Google for getting precise accurate information. Rather than searching through Google’s website results on a topic to get to the gold paragraph or phrase that answers your question, ChatGPT instantly lays out to the point, accurate info which is totally targeted in my experience. It is awesome for arcane web development questions or complicated issues that may be puzzling you as a novice, or even a seasoned pro photographer. Of course, any topic you can imagine seems to be no problem for this version of ChatGPT.

Since I wrote the above ChatGPT has moved on, now offering version 5 for free. This version continues on being awesome for all sorts of subjects. The only problem with the free version is for complicated problems when you feel like you must continue on, you may be cut off with a message that you have reached your limit for several hours. This of course is frustrating. ChatGPT 5 is so good, and I need it so often I upgraded to ChatGPT 5 Plus. They give you the first year at a bargain price and there is seemingly no limit to how many chats you can initiate in a day with the Plus version. Personally I have been nothing less than astounded at how good it is at understanding your problem, summarizing it succinctly (a great help for clarity) and then going on to show you the answer in as much depth as you can take!
